Peterborough Careers is the list of employment sites for Peterborough, Ontario. From General Job Listings to Specific Fields of Work like banking, health care, teaching and engineering; this site is full of the Peterborough job links that you need. There are 400 sites from the Peterborough area which comprise PeterboroughCareers.com. Some are as general as the Service Canada Job Bank set to the Peterborough location, and some are obscure companies that you would have never heard of otherwise.
PeterboroughCareers.com was created in 2008 and is maintained by Michael VanDerHerberg, currently the employment counsellor at the New Canadians Centre, facilitator of the Workplace Integration Centre, and co-owner of the Silver Bean Café, located in Millennium Park here in Peterborough. The site started as an effort to see graduates find employment in Peterborough and has turned into a thriving site which receives over 4000 visitors monthly. The site includes the following:
· General – Contains general job listings for Peterborough that are not specific to a sector or company. They are the traditional job search sites, the most popular being the Service Canada Job Bank. The top general job listings, generally 4 or 5 sites, are listed at the top of this page so users are able to find the most useful job search sites first.
· Advertise – Contains information about placing ads on Peterborough Careers.
· Application Forms – Contains links to scanned application forms or direct links to application forms on company websites.
· Grants for Employers – Contains government grants, loans and financing programs for businesses. An example is the Ontario Summer Jobs Service Program where businesses can receive a $2.00/hour subsidy for hiring students during the summer.
· Networking – Contains featured events listings and opportunities to network with other business professionals in Peterborough. As mentioned on the page, you need to know people to find a job in Peterborough. That is the reality of it. And you need to meet people to know them.
· Specific Fields of Work – This page is a catch-all for all other significant fields of work that do not have their own tab. These specific fields of work include:

· Companies - Contains job links for all of the companies found in the city of Peterborough that are not directly affiliated with a government or non-profit organization. Some of these are duplicates from other pages, but this is meant to be a full list of all companies in the greater Peterborough area.
· Non-Profit - Contains employment opportunities with non-profit organizations as well as volunteer opportunities generally located in the Peterborough area.
· Banks and Finance – Contains links to all of the major banks in Peterborough, as well as accounting firms, credit unions, and financial service organizations.
· Engineering / Science – This page has quite a wide range of links included. It contains links to the major engineering firms in town, environmental organizations, conservation authorities, and consulting firms. Although quite a bit to get through the first time, this seems like the best fit for science based careers.
· Health – Peterborough, being the retirement community that it is, should have no shortage of RN, RPN, and PSW jobs in the decades ahead (as long as PRHC doesn’t lay off nurses that is). This page contains many of the area’s Clinics, Retirement Residences, Long-term Care Facilities, and Community Health Care agencies. Beyond the list of job links, it also contains contact information and tips on how to apply to specific organizations.
· Teaching – Are there teaching jobs in Peterborough? Being a medium-sized, destination community with a declining enrolment that also contains a Teacher’s College, many graduates from that program do find it difficult to work in that field in this area. However, take a look through the links; you never know what you’ll find by looking.
· Government – Contains links to government positions, and many government-funded positions in the beautiful city of Peterborough.
